Municipal council size to be considered on 2026 ballot at upcoming public meetings

Prince Edward County residents can have their say on a proposed ballot question for the 2026 municipal election starting this Thursday.

County Council intends to pass a by-law to add the question ‘Are you in favour of a third-party review of Council size and related ward boundary changes?’ to the 2026 ballot.

Four public meetings will be held, providing community members an opportunity to learn more and provide input.

Council will hold public meetings on the following days;

Location: Ameliasburgh Town Hall

Date: October 28, 2025

Time: 6 pm

Date: October 28, 2025

Time: 6 pm

Location: Wellington and District Community Centre

Date: November 3, 2025

Time: 6 pm

Location: Athol Town Hall

Date: November 18, 2025

Time: 6 pm

Location: Shire Hall

For the results of the question to be legally binding on the municipality, at least 50 per cent of the eligible electors in the municipality vote on the question, and more than 50 per cent of the voters must be in favour.
