Hawks tame Hurricanes in return to Newmarket

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 11, 2025 | 10:48 PM

The Trenton Golden Hawks powerplay was cooking in a 5-2 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.

Trenton scored three times on the man advantage as part of continuing their point streak to four straight games.

The big threats were present again, with Jack Ziliotto finding the net twice for his seventh and eighth of the season and Taeo Artichuk scoring his 12th of the season following his hat trick performance on Friday vs Milton.

Artichuk’s goal and the second Ziliotto marker on the powerplay helped erase a brief Newmarket lead after Simon Wang and Reggie Taylor put the Canes ahead.

Beckett Ewart got a massive insurance goal about four minutes into the third, when he streaked to the net and tipped in an Artichuk feed the immediate shift after Hayden Jeffery made two huge stops back-to-back off the Hurricanes to preserve Trenton’s lead.

Artichuk finished with four points, another outstanding performance to get Trenton back in the win column and improve to 10-2-0-1 on the season.

Reed Pettipas added three assists in the victory and Jeffrey stopped 31.

Trenton will play a rare mid-week afternoon game on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. versus the Lindsay Muskies at the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens.
