Mediation talks expected Friday in college support staff strike

By Hailey MacDonald Sep 25, 2025 | 8:50 AM

The two sides of a battle over a new contract for Ontario College support staff workers are expected to enter discussions tomorrow.

In a statement on its website yesterday, the College Employer Council stated it has agreed to meet in mediation with members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

The CEC stated no formal request was made and it learned about OPSEU seeking a government-appointed mediator through the media.

CEC CEO Graham Lloyd stated colleges have ‘consistently bargained in good faith’ and have put forward more than $145 million in improved wages, benefits, and job security.

The hope, he stated, is to have the mediator help the two sides secure a fair deal that balances the needs of employees, students, and the long-term sustainability of the college system.

Around 10,000 support workers have been on strike across the province, including here at Loyalist since Sept. 11.
