Canadian Parliament returns to the House of Commons following a busy, but productive summer.
Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette stated to InQuinte.ca the focus while outside of the chamber was getting on the ground and getting down to the heart of what is affecting businesses, residents and communities nation-wide.
“I’ve attended more than 60 events, business opening celebrations and various consultations with business and industry representatives from across the Bay of Quinte,” he stated.
“While neither I or my office took any time off in that long hot summer, what we did get was a tremendous amount of important input from all aspects of our communities, the challenges businesses and individuals are facing in these uncertain times and how they expect our government to step up and bring about meaningful change and progress.”
Malette touched on the conversations and commitments made to improve on early progress that were had at last week’s national caucus retreat in Edmonton, Alberta.
One large announcement made over the weekend was the launch of the $13 billion Build Canada Homes initiative, a new federal agency that will oversee the construction of around 4,000 homes on federal land.
“I and my colleagues are returning to the House of Commons Monday embued with the confidence Bay of Quinte voters have placed in me and our government to right our national ship in these turbulent times, but we’ve got the team and the leader to get it done,” Malette stated.
Government House Leader Steven MacKinnon is set to outline the Liberal government’s fall priorities Monday morning.
The federal budget is expected to be a key topic when Prime Minister Mark Carney squares off against Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for the first time in the daily question period.
