DeSantis says goodbye to long-standing Catholic education career

A senior school board leader with more than 30 years experience in Catholic education is calling it a career.

The Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has announced the retirement of David DeSantis, effective January 30, 2026.

After graduating from Brock, McMaster and St. Bonaventure Universities, DeSantis served in various roles with the Halton and Waterloo Catholic boards before being appointed with the local catholic board in January 2019.

He guided the creation and implementation of the ALCDSB’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan, which over five years was monitored, evaluated, and reported to trustees and the community.

This plan delivered meaningful outcomes that positively impacted staff, students, and families. With its successful conclusion, the senior team is preparing to launch a new five-year Multi-Year Strategic Plan in the fall of 2025 to continue this progress.

DeSantis said in a statement his heart is ‘filled with gratitude’ for all the accomplishments the board has achieved in the past six years and for having the privilege to serve alongside dedicated staff.

“I leave confident that this Board will continue to flourish in faith, wisdom, and compassion, always grounded in Christ as we build faith-filled learning communities where each member is loved, inspired, and successful.”
