County Docs request 7% raise in 2026 operating budget allocation

Prince Edward County Council has referred a budget request from County Docs to staff for consideration in the 2026 operating budget.

During Tuesday’s Council meeting, Barinder Gill, Executive Director of the Prince Edward Family Health Team (PEFHT), and Adam Hambly, Director of Physician Recruitment, presented an update on the program’s progress.

So far in 2025, two new physicians have begun practicing in the County, bringing the total number of recruits to nine. Three of those physicians have joined the local ER group. County Docs has also launched a U.S.-focused advertising campaign to attract American family doctors.

Gill and Hambly requested an increase to the program’s budget allocation, from $150,000 to $160,500 – a seven per cent rise. They said the adjustment would account for economic pressures and ensure at least a cost-of-living increase for the physician recruiter’s salary.

Council supported a motion to refer the request to staff for review during the 2026 budget process.
