Belleville Giveaway Days back Oct 18 & 19

Giveaway Days are back in Belleville on Oct 18 & 19.

Giveaway Day is an eco-friendly community event initiated by the Green Task Force.

Participating residents are encouraged to put out gently used household items that are no longer wanted to the curb for pick-up. This will provide other residents with the chance to look through what has been set out and take what they want from the clearly-marked items.

Appropriate items include new or gently-used items in working condition, such as furniture, small applicanes, books, DVDs, kitchen items, renovation materials, electronics, and more.

Please do not put out anything that could pose a safety hazard or that has been recalled by the manufacturer. Consumer Product Safety Bureau of Health Canada advises that the following items should not be given away or picked up: baby walkers, cribs, car seats, strollers, playpens, bath seats, mattresses, blinds, and toys.

If participating, place stickers or signs on the items with the word ‘FREE’. Download a printable FREE sign.

Ensure items put to the curb are properly cleaned and disinfected by 8am on the selected Giveaway Day.

Ensure any items that you do not want taken are kept away from the curb.

Bring any leftover items back in by 7pm on the selected Giveaway Day. Do not leave items curbside after the event is done. The City will not collectg unwanted items. It will be considered dumpoing and Bylaw will be enforcing the Clean Yards Bylaw following the event.

If picking items up, respect other people’s property, take only the items marked ‘FREE’ and placed at the curb, do not leave previously picked-up items on the curb at other people’s property, and always practice good hand hygiene before and after handling items, and ensure they are properly cleaned and disinfected when brought home.

If there are leftover items, Bellevilel residents can easily donate gently-used items they no longer want to local thrift stores and reuse stores, some of which offer pickup service. If items are not accepted for donation, residents have many options for waste removal and disposal, including bulky item pickup at reasonable rates, as well as landfill and transfer stations within City limits.
