On Saturday, Sept 27, Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp met with the team at the Quinte Paddling Club to hear more about the $46,600 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to purchase new equipment. The project will foster a physically active lifestyle and allow the club to deliver high quality programs with direct community benefit.
“Dragon boating offers a great mix of socialization, teamwork, and physical activity for all ages. Through this OTF grant for the Quinte Paddling Club, our government is ensuring that more Bay of Quinte residents will be able to get on the water throughout the year to learn and enjoy this sport,” said Tyler Allsopp, MPP for Bay of Quinte.
The funds will be used to purchase 2 complete dragon boats and a trailer on which to transport them, allowing Quinte Paddling Club to share the sport in a variety of communities in our area. As well, 2 paddle ERGs will be purchased to enhance winter training and allow members to stay engaged in fitness activities year-round.
”Thanks to the Ontario Government and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Quinte Paddling Club will enjoy a significant upgrade to our existing equipment and have the means with which to share the joy of paddling with the larger community. We have the beautiful Bay of Quinte on our doorstep, and we provide a way for more people to safely experience active waterfront living,” said QPC Vice President Marilynne Senese.
Quinte Paddling Club is a Belleville based multidisciplinary community of paddling enthusiasts who share a passion for water based sports. We offer programs in dragon boating, outrigger canoeing and solo water craft including kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. We create opportunities for members to engage in physical activity and remain connected to each other and their community year round.(e.g. mission statement, services, history, upcoming events etc.)
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
