A man who reportedly fled the scene of a domestic situation over the weekend in Belleville has been charged with assault.

Around 1:15 Saturday afternoon, Belleville Police stated a domestic dispute in the west end involved a man attending a residence and reportedly physically assaulting a woman before leaving the scene.

Further investigation revealed the male was in breach of a probation order for failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

Yesterday, before 5:30 p.m., officers were called back to the same residence and found the man hiding under a mattress in the basement.

A 19-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged him with assault and failure to comply with a probation order.

He was held for a bail hearing.
