The Special Investigations Unit has wrapped up their invesitgation into a fatal motorcycle crash in Madoc without laying charges against an OPP officer.
The SIU found no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the death of the 57-year-old man who died in the crash.
On April 25, 2025, a man riding a motorcycle at Highway 7 and St Lawrence Street West, was struck by the driver of a Porche.
At the time, the driver of the Porche was being pursued by an OPP officer for dangerous driving.
The OPP’s Central Hastings Detachment that night received a traffic complaint regarding a blue Porsche with a taillight out weaving in and out of traffic dangerously.
The vehicle, reportedly travelling at about 160 km/h, was said to be in the area of Madoc.
The Subject Official (SO) left the Central Hastings Detachment and drove eastbound on Highway 7 with his radar activated.
He saw a blue Porsche 992 travelling at 125 km/h in an 80 km/h zone westbound towards him and activated his emergency lights during the pursuit.
The report notes that there were no other cars on that stretch of highway at the time and the OPP officer’s vehicle and the porche being pursued were never close enough to make contact.
