Province provides funds for new water tower in Centre Hastings

The Ontario government is investing $4,798,363.00 in water infrastructure to help build approximately 1,107 new homes in The Municipality of Centre Hastings. The funding is being delivered through the province’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP).

Centre Hastings will use the funding to build a new water tower. This project will help unlock more housing opportunities and support economic growth in the local community.

“I’m pleased our government is supporting the good work our partners in Centre Hastings are doing through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.” said Ric Bresee, MPP of Hastings-Lennox & Addington. “This investment in a new water tower will add safe, reliable capacity to unlock the homes families need, keep local trades on the job, and support growth, including under the cross-border servicing agreement with the Township of Madoc. Strong water infrastructure is how we build more homes and stronger communities faster.”

“The Municipality is growing, and this funding will help to ensure that we can meet the housing needs of current and future generations,” said Tom Deline, Mayor of Centre Hastings. “We will continue working with our provincial partners to get shovels in the ground here. This investment will directly support us in delivering housing and housingenabling infrastructure that is desperately needed in our community. We’re grateful for the Ontario government’s support as we work to do our part even in rural Ontario to tackle the housing crisis and build a stronger future for residents of all ages and abilities. The Municipality provides potable water supply to parts of the Township of Madoc through a cross-border servicing agreement. This critical investment will ensure a reliable, safe water supply to support both of our community’s growth and prosperity for years to come.”

The MHIP is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario and includes historic investments in housing- and community-enabling infrastructure that will help municipalities deliver the core infrastructure needed, such as roads and water systems, to lay the foundation for new homes in communities across the province.

“In the face of economic uncertainty, our government is investing in the future for the people of Ontario by doubling down on our plan to build,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure. “With our additional investments in the MHIP, we’re unlocking more housing and building critical infrastructure that will protect communities, keep workers on the job and lay the groundwork for a stronger economy.”

Centre Hastings will also be receiving a loan of $3.8M for wastewater pipe rehabilitation and service expansion through Infrastructure Ontario’s HousingEnabling Water Infrastructure lending stream.
