A person is fighting for their life in the hospital following a serious three-vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Grafton.
Emergency responders were called to the westbound lanes, east of the Lyle Street overpass around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
One passenger was transported to a Toronto-area hospital by Air ORNGE with life-threatening injuries.
As a result of the collision, Highway 401 westbound was closed from County Road 25 in Colborne while members of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation team attended to assist with the investigation. It has since reopened.
While the highway was closed, a 24-year-old male driver from Brampton entered the closed section and was subsequently stopped by police. He was charged with
careless driving.
Northumberland OPP reminds the public to obey road closure signs and follow detours.
These measures are in place to protect emergency personnel, individuals involved in collisions, and to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
