Despite not being named in the first round of announcements, Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp remains confident that Belleville is “well-positioned” to be named as a host to one of the remaining HART hubs in Ontario.
Nine of the ten provincially-funded supervised consumption sites that were forced to shut down through recent legislation were awarded HART hubs in an announcement on Thursday.
The “homelessness and addiction recovery treatment hubs” had to be set up by March 31 (when the previous sites were due to close) in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph and Thunder Bay.
At Wednesday’s New Year’s Levee in Belleville, Allsopp said supporting the city’s application was a top priority as he meets with people at Queen’s Park.
Following the announcement on Thursday, Allsopp said he has personally spoken with the Premier, Minister of Health, Associate Minister of Health and staff on the issue, and based on those meetings he is confident that Belleville is well-positioned in the process.
He says he is looking forward to the next wave of announcements, which is expected to happen in the next 2-3 weeks.
