Children’s Safety Village launches new seniors online & financial safety program

The Safety Village is proud to announce the launch of its Seniors Safety Program: Online & Financial Literacy + Fraud Prevention, a new monthly initiative designed to support older adults in navigating today’s increasingly digital world safely and confidently.

As more services move online, seniors are increasingly targeted by scams and fraud. This program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools they need to recognize risks, protect their personal information, and respond appropriately when something doesn’t feel right.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Identify common scams and fraud tactics
  • Protect personal and financial information online
  • Build confidence using digital and online banking tools
  • Take action if they suspect fraudulent activity

“Our goal is prevention through education,” said Rachelle Baldock, Executive Director of the Children’s Safety Village of Belleville. “While we are widely known for our work with children, safety has no age limit. This program ensures seniors in our community feel empowered, informed, and protected.”

The program will be delivered on the first Wednesday of every month from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, beginning May 6th, at the Safety Village (129 South John Street, Belleville). We will be closed on any Stat Holidays.

This program is free to the public. For those with questions or concerns about online safety and fraud, our team is here to help.

This program is proudly funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program and delivered in partnership with TD Bank and the Belleville Police Service. Their expertise helps ensure the program is practical, relevant, and impactful for participants.

Each month, Belleville Police Service will focus on a new theme related to financial literacy and fraud prevention. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, gain practical knowledge, and build confidence in navigating financial and online safety.

The Safety Village is a registered charity dedicated to providing hands-on safety education to children and the broader community, helping individuals build confidence and make safe choices in everyday life.
