Five of our best and brightest young minds are going to be showcasing their talents on the national stage next month.
One of my all-time favourite events, the Quinte Region Science and Technology Fair, was held at St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School in Belleville on Saturday.
More than 80 budding young scientists from local schools put more than 70 amazing projects out on the floor for judging, with the top five moving on to the nationals in Edmonton in May.
I have been to this event multiple times and let me tell you, the future is in good and very creative hands with these amazing young people.
At a time when we are worried about test scores and social media pressure, it’s invigorating to see what a creative, disciplined and properly encouraged young mind can create and then explain to the rest of us.
Students from across the Quinte region delved into a wide array of scientific disciplines, from environmental studies and engineering challenges to health sciences and computational thinking.
It also showcased the many ways excellence can be achieved, with the group of five going to Edmonton including students from the public and catholic school system and one who is being home-schooled.
As we watched in awe last week as a Canadian was front and centre in the Artemis 2 mission to the moon, we must always remember that his journey started somewhere, and maybe (just maybe) our next astronaut or ground-breaking scientist took their first few steps on that journey this weekend in Belleville. For them, truly, the sky is the limit!
