The City of Belleville is moving forward with the Front Street (Upper) Bridge Rehabilitation Project, a proactive investment to preserve a key downtown transportation link and ensure its continued reliability.
A public consultation centre will be held to provide project details, anticipated timelines and information on what to expect during construction. The session will take place on March 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SMB Room at Belleville City Hall.
As no formal presentation will be made, residents are encouraged to attend at their convenience during the scheduled time. Members of the project team will be available to answer questions and gather feedback.
City officials say the Upper Bridge, located along Front Street and connecting key corridors including Moira Street and Station Street, is an important route for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. The rehabilitation will address aging structural components and extend the overall service life of the bridge.
Work will include structural repairs to the bridge deck and supporting elements to maintain long-term performance. Rehabilitating the bridge at this stage is a cost-effective approach that helps avoid more extensive repairs or full replacement in the future.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2026, with completion expected in fall 2026.
Construction will result in temporary traffic impacts in the surrounding area. The bridge and the section of the Parrott Riverfront Trail below the bridge will be closed for the duration of construction.
Lane restrictions and short-term closures may be required on adjacent streets. Detours will be clearly marked. The City will work to minimize disruption and maintain safe access for residents, businesses and visitors throughout the project.
Investing in the rehabilitation of the Upper Bridge reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure renewal, public safety and responsible asset management.
Project updates will be shared at GetInvolved.Belleville.ca and through the City’s official communication channels. Comments or inquiries can be submitted to the Project Manager by emailing construction@belleville.ca or by calling 613-967-3200 ext. 3454.
