Belleville Councillor seeking letter to province for school board trustee consultation

By Brock Ormond Mar 23, 2026 | 12:04 PM

Belleville Council will be considering a motion related to school board trustees at its meeting Monday.

A Coun. Lisa Anne Chatten motion asks that the City of Belleville write a letter to the Minister of Education requesting that a formal province wide consultation process be developed and implemented before making a decision that would eliminate English Public Board Trustees that are publicly and democratically elected through Municipal Elections.

This consultation process includes province wide Town Hall meetings, surveys and public input from school and community stakeholders.

Other agenda items include a Coun. Kelly Henderson motion about an amendment to the Southeast Public Health Board budget, answers to questions on the doctor recruitment program in Belleville, consideration of proposals to upgrade fire services and the review of the 2025 Sunshine List and council remuneration/expenses.

Council meets at 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.
