Prince Edward County Council will be hearing about potential improvements to its Code of Conduct at its first meeting of February on Tuesday.
A copy of a deputation from County resident Paul Allen states that he had brought complaints forward to the Integrity Commissioner on two occasions regarding one Councillor’s apparent breach of prohibitions against the improper use of influence and conflict of interest listed in the Code.
Back on December 9, 2025, Allen stated this Councillor, not named in the deputation, was alone in voting against a motion before Council that could have substantial negative financial implications for a company with which the Councillor’s son had an ongoing business relationship.
He noted the motion could also have substantial positive financial implications for the County and its taxpayers.
Allen stated the IC had dismissed his complaints, noting the Code offers County residents no enforceable means of prohibiting elected officials with conflicts of interest from acting to benefit themselves or close family members, rather than in the public’s interest.
In other council business, presentations will be heard from Jenn Barrett on the Food for Learning Program and Visit the County Executive Director Sarah Fox on the organization’s activities in 2025, as well as an update on the 2026 Strategic Plan.
Council meets at 7 p.m. at Shire Hall.
