Lennox and Addington County OPP is reinforcing its commitment to road safety following a targeted enforcement initiative focused on Commercial Motor Vehicles.
As part of an ongoing road safety strategy, L&A and Frontenac OPP officers conducted several CMV inspections this week, focusing strictly on equipment standards and driver compliance with provincial traffic laws. The results of these inspections highlight the critical need for continued vigilance:
- 10 charges and warnings issued for safety violations.
- 1 commercial motor vehicle removed from the highway and placed out of service due to safety concerns.
“Our goal is to ensure that every driver-whether in a passenger car or a heavy truck-makes it home safely,” stated the L&A County OPP. “With 13% of all collisions this year involving a commercial vehicle, and a staggering 18% of those resulting in fatalities, we cannot overlook the importance of compliance and driver behavior.”
Police identified improper lane changes and excessive speeds as the leading factors in collisions involving CMVs. To combat these trends, the public can expect a significant, ongoing police presence along key trucking corridors throughout the year.
