Busy week for local PJHL teams

TUESDAY

CHIEFS 10 THUNDER 2

A matchup between the PJHL Tod Division’s #1 and last place teams went according to the standings on Tuesday night.

The Lakefield Chiefs blew away the Trent Hills Thunder on the scoreboard and the shot count, 57-17 to run away with a lopsided victory.

Trent Hills got goals from Coulter Trudeau (10th of the season) and Ronnie Watson (6th) and 47 saves in a valiant goaltending effort from affiliated player Blake Melnychuk.

 

THURSDAY

CHIEFS 4 PIRATES 1

The Picton Pirates were playing for a great cause on Thursday on Pirates Fight Cancer night.

The Pirates wore special pink and black jerseys to be auctioned off to fans, with all proceeds to be donated to the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Picton put up a great fight in the game against the PJHL Tod Division’s number one ranked team, but ultimately fell by a 4-1 score.

Ben Smith’s marker 23 seconds into the third accounted for the lone Picton tally.

Nolan Lane made 28 saves for Picton.

 

FRIDAY

RAIDERS 3 PANTHERS 2 (OT)

Andrew Carr provided the overtime heroics in a 3-2 Napanee Raiders home victory over the Port Hope Panthers.

Carr netted the winner 21 seconds into the extra frame, his 18th of the year.

Eric Taher buried his first PJHL goal and Ryan Aldridge scored his fourth of the season to help the Napanee cause.

Jackson Barnes and Ryan McGee added two assists each and Jacob Brown turned away 20 Port Hope chances to improve Napanee to 23-12-2-1.

 

JETS 6 THUNDER 2

The Amherstview Jets broke open a tie game with three goals late in the second period and cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Trent Hills Thunder.

Ronnie Watson and Isaac Krentz supplied the offence for the Thunder.

Zack Barfitt made 29 saves in the loss.

 

SATURDAY

HUSKIES 7 PIRATES 2

A rivalry matchup between Quinte West and Prince Edward County ended in the home crowd going home happy.

Blake Ellis and Riley Grimmon each potted a pair for Frankford and Nolan Donnelly, Deke Osterhout and Liam Storms all notched single goals for the Huskies

Tyler Braund scored twice for Picton as the Pirates dropped their fourth in a row.

 

PANTHERS 8 THUNDER 4

Saturday was Ryder Minifie’s night.

The Port Hope Panthers forward fired home five goals in a win over the Trent Hills Thunder, handing the visitors their sixth consecutive defeat and third of the week on the road.

Owen Hammond scored twice for the Thunder on the night, with Brody Brooks and Carter Rightmeyer adding one each.

Parker Robbins took the loss with 26 saves.

 

SUNDAY

HUSKIES 7 JETS 3

The Huskies picked up right where they left off the night before, going on the road and defeating the Amherstview Jets with a second straight seven-goal performance.

Ellis notched four more points in the victory, with Grimmon and Keegan Juchau each compiling three points.

Osterhout, Ryan Turney and Spencer Stanutz all hit the net for the Huskies.

Boyer made 31 saves for his second win in as many days to help Frankford cut into Lakefield’s Tod Division lead with its sixth straight win.
