Two people charged with trafficking in Contraband Tobacco in Napanee

Two people have been charged after a traffic stop led to the seizure of unmarked tobacco products in Napanee.

Saturday night around 8 pm, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the eastbound 401 in Greater Napanee.

The vehicle was stopped and while speaking with the driver and passenger the officer observed what appeared to be unmarked tobacco products within the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were placed under arrest. As a result of the investigation.

The vehicle driver, Brandon MARSHALL of Ottawa (age 32) was charged with:

  • Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco
  • Poss of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
  • Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted speed limit
  • Having care and control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The vehicle passenger, Caine AKULUKJUK (age 32) of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to properly wear seat belt

Both were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on June 13th.
